Kiera Forrest Consulting

Hi! I’m Kiera (she/they). I’m a Registered Social Worker (BSW) with a background in anti-violence, gender studies, sexual wellness, and abortion and a passion for Somatic Healing. I offer one-time or ongoing support to individuals and couples/relationships. This includes general relational and sexual wellness support as well as support around the experience of abortion (decision-making, pre-appointment, and post-abortion) to anyone who feels they may benefit. This can include supports, partners, and anyone involved or with a past experience.

I am a queer, disabled settler of Irish and Scottish descent, grateful to live in amiskwaciwâskahikan on Treaty 6 and Métis Region 4 territory. Over the past few years, I have been lucky to connect with aspects of Celtic spirituality and strengthen my relationship to nature, particularly with the trees, the river, and the sky. My relationship to the land and its people is ever-developing, and I am mindful that these are the traditional lands of the Nehiyawak (Cree), Tsuut’ina (Sarcee), Anishnaabe (Saulteaux), Métis, Nakota Sioux, Denesuliné (Dene), and Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) peoples. What this means to me is in a state of constant development as I consider my positionality in a colonial state. Among other things, I believe it is my responsibility to be mindful of the historical context of the land on which I live and of the effects of the still-ongoing genocide and colonisation of Indigenous peoples. I firmly believe in abolition, decriminalization, harm reduction, and Land Back and am working towards creating accessible and sustainable support offers.

I provide relational, sexual, and reproductive wellness support by working with you to nurture the relationship you have with yourself and your body. Understanding why you feel the way you do and strengthening this connection through somatic practices creates space for you to process emotions, let go of stuck energy, and reconnect with your nervous system to shed old habits and patterns. In doing so, you’ll be able to practise new ways of being that align with where you’re at in your healing journey.

Healthy relationships thrive with healthy communication, and healthy communication thrives in connection with the self - the ability to move through spaces of dysregulation to navigate conflict in respectful and productive ways can help to foster safety and connection in relationship. I am able to see the bigger picture and empathize with the complexities and nuances of multiple people’s perspectives, identifying patterns of behaviour and their potential root causes, in order to encourage compassion and growth within your relationships.

I’m passionate about supportive listening and am curious by nature, so I love to ask questions that provoke deeper connection with your feelings and what your body is trying to communicate. I believe we are all experts in our own experiences, and I prioritize empowering you to trust your own wisdom. I view mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical wellness as interconnected aspects that work in harmony and firmly believe that pleasure is an essential part of overall well-being.

Above anything else, my approach is rooted in compassion, non-judgment, and empowerment. I encourage collaboration in our work together with open communication about your needs. Our sessions get to look however you’d like, and I welcome your input and feedback.

My commitment to you is rooted in the belief that shame, guilt, and stigma surrounding abortion, sexuality, and pleasure must be addressed and dismantled. I embrace a peer support approach, seeing each person as a teacher in their own right and sharing what I’ve learned as we navigate our own unique paths to healing and growth.

I believe art, tarot, and astrology serve as tools for introspection and symbolism. If desired, we can incorporate these and other spiritual aspects into our sessions to provide further insight and guidance.

My formal experience includes:

  • 3 years as a social worker with the abortion clinic providing support around abortion, miscarriage, decision-making, and contraception.

  • 6 years as a volunteer with three different anti-sexual violence organisations providing supportive listening, crisis intervention, and community education.

  • 3 years as a crisis intervention worker with a domestic violence shelter providing support and resources to families fleeing violence or navigating houselessness.

  • 2 years of Gender Studies at the University of Alberta and 2 years in the Bachelor of Social Work program at MacEwan, with coursework in addictions, grief & loss, gender & sexuality, social work with groups, sexual violence, feminism & sexual assault, body politics, disability studies, masculinities, and trans theory.

  • 3 years at a local sex toy store educating customers on anatomy and safe sexual health practices and co-creating a safe and non-judgmental environment that encouraged conversation around exploring desires.

  • various workshops, suicide intervention trainings, personal interest & research, and self-work.
